Trainwreck

Website is physically running, and updates are in place, but media and user accounts have not been restored.UPDATE: Partial restoration of user accounts and stories, forums are starting to build and media is being uploaded. Please be patient.

 The whole thing was a huge trainwreck.

Much like the one that happened in Bullitt Co., KY about 2 years ago. The whole thing was preventable, just a few steps, and someone wasn't paying attention, and if there were anyone watching, it was just nothing more than rubbernecking a mess on the freeway. Here's the skinny:

First, I have decided that if I'm going to own this site... I might as well use it. There's so much happening in the world today, and of course I have thoughts. So what did I do? I got in here and I was checking some things out... I wanted to make sure that the security was good, and that patches had been up to date. Of course, there was work to do.

In the process I noticed that the webserver where the site is hosted at was running ancient versions of PHP, MySQL, etc. In order to get things up to date, and to install all my patches, I got the bright idea to set it all up and then have the site moved to a new server on the same host, which would get me the updated backend. Well....  the updates wrecked everything, which prompted me to attempt to restore things back to the way they were originally... Didn't work.

So, here I am again... With the updates and the new backend in place... And a complete loss of data. Now, if this were FARK or CNN, this would be a huge issue, not to mention that a team of much more qualified personnel to remedy the situation. 

But I do like the changes that have been made, for the most part. It seems as if there are so many tweaks that can be done. I'm going to work on getting all of the media restored, but that's going to take time, and quite honestly, time is not something that I have a whole lot of. Its a big part of the reason that this domain has sat dormant for so long.

I will begin work on updating the media and articles that were on the site, and there are some nice tools out there to help with it, but its definitely going to take time. If you prefer, just sign up for a new account, and I'll try to get them put in place. Accounts here don't really "lose" anything, so no worries there. 

Sorry about the mess... I'll work on keeping things in better order, and hopefully this won't happen again.
